Rabuka pointed out that the number of illegal immigrants in Fiji has surged to more than 8,000, doubling from 4,700 in the previous year. This sharp increase presents a substantial challenge for the Department of Immigration, which is under pressure to find effective solutions.
He stated that the focus should be on preventing immigrants from overstaying their visas rather than relying solely on detention.
