The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission (FHRADC) has issued a call for immediate, impartial, and transparent investigations into various accusations of police brutality. This appeal comes in the wake of troubling reports indicating excessive force used by police officers that violate fundamental human rights, consequently eroding the public’s trust in law enforcement.

The Commission highlighted specific incidents, including three reported complaints of human rights violations involving police conduct. One alarming case from Nausori involved a bystander allegedly subjected to physical assault. A third allegation concerns the use of force during a caution interview to obtain a confession.
