Fiji’s Hospitality Stars Shine at HOTEC 2024!

The skills and talents of staff from notable hotels like InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn Suva were celebrated at the HOTEC 2024, an annual event organized by the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association. This year’s celebration took place at the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, bringing together professionals from Fiji’s hospitality sector to honor achievements and discuss the future of tourism in the region.

This event spotlighted several outstanding individuals. Hansini Gounder from InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa secured first place in the Barista Competition for the third time, having previously won in 2017 and 2018, showcasing her remarkable skills and passion for coffee-making. Theodore Reyes, also from the same resort, impressed judges by winning the Bartender Competition with his creative use of local ingredients in cocktails. In addition, Anesh Anushal Goundar was recognized as Runner-Up in the Chef Competition, presenting dishes inspired by the rich Fijian culinary heritage.

Representing the strength and professionalism of FNPF Owned IHG Hotels & Resorts were Brandon Solvalu from Grand Pacific Hotel, along with Mereoni Ligadua and Malakai Kauyaca from Holiday Inn Suva. This reflects the strong food and beverage talent within Fiji’s hospitality landscape.

Lachlan Walker, the general manager for IHG Hotels & Resorts portfolio, commented on the team’s remarkable achievements, emphasizing IHG’s dedication to nurturing talent and fostering the advancement of the local hospitality industry.

The HOTEC event, backed by partners like APTC, South Pacific Coffee Company, Punjas Fiji, and Fiji Gas, served as a vital platform for hospitality professionals to showcase their skills and engage in discussions on quality, sustainability, and innovation in the sector.
