Employees from IHG hotels and resorts, owned by FNPF, achieved remarkable success in barista, bartender, and chef competitions at the annual HOTEC 2024 event held in Nadi.
Hansini Gounder, representing InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, claimed the top spot in the barista competition, showcasing her outstanding coffee-making skills. Notably, this marks her third victory in this category, as she also secured first place in 2017 and 2018.
In the bartender competition, Theodore Reyes, also from InterContinental, emerged victorious, impressing judges with his innovative cocktails crafted from local ingredients. Meanwhile, Anesh Anushal Goundar, a fellow InterContinental employee, secured the runner-up position in the chef competition, presenting dishes that celebrated Fijian flavors. They were supported by colleagues Brandon Solvalu from GPH, and Mereoni Ligadua and Malakai Kauyaca from Holiday Inn, further exemplifying the talent within IHG’s teams.
Lachlan Walker, Portfolio General Manager – IHG Hotels & Resorts, FNPF Owned Hotels, praised the achievements of the team, stating, “Our team’s exceptional successes at HOTEC 2024 reflect IHG’s commitment to developing talent and supporting the growth of our local hospitality industry.” He emphasized the organization’s dedication to nurturing Fijian talent and aiding them in realizing their career aspirations.
Walker also highlighted IHG’s ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and support for local businesses in its daily operations. The HOTEC event served as a valuable platform for hospitality professionals to showcase their skills and share innovative ideas centered on quality and sustainability in the industry.
This triumph at HOTEC not only underscores the exceptional talent present in Fiji’s hospitality scene, but also paints a bright future for local professionals who are increasingly recognized on larger stages.
In summary, IHG’s accomplishments at the HOTEC 2024 competition signal not only the excellence of their employees but also a positive outlook for Fiji’s hospitality industry as a whole, bolstered by a strong emphasis on talent development and sustainability.
