Talents from the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn Suva received accolades at HOTEC 2024, an annual event organized by the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association. This celebration took place at the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort and was designed to honor the achievements, innovations, and future prospects of the tourism industry in Fiji.

Among this year’s notable winners was Hansini Gounder from InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, who secured first place in the Barista Competition for the third consecutive time, having previously triumphed in 2017 and 2018. Her consistent success highlights her remarkable skill and passion for coffee making. Theodore Reyes, also from the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, claimed victory in the Bartender Competition, captivating the judges with his creative use of local ingredients in his cocktails. Additionally, Anesh Anushal Goundar from the same resort earned Runner-Up in the Chef Competition, showcasing a selection of dishes infused with traditional Fijian flavors.

Brandon Solvalu from Grand Pacific Hotel and Mereoni Ligadua and Malakai Kauyaca from Holiday Inn Suva joined the celebrations, representing the FNPF Owned IHG Hotels & Resorts with enthusiasm and professionalism. Their participation emphasized the rich culinary talent across Fiji’s hotel sector.

Lachlan Walker, the general manager of IHG Hotels & Resorts portfolio, stated, “Our team’s exceptional achievements at HOTEC 2024 reflect IHG’s commitment to developing talent and supporting the growth of our local hospitality industry.”

HOTEC 2024, with the support of partners such as APTC, South Pacific Coffee Company, Punjas Fiji, and Fiji Gas, served as an encouraging platform for hospitality professionals to showcase their talents and exchange ideas that revolve around quality, sustainability, and innovation.

This recognition of local talents not only underlines the importance of fostering skills within the hospitality industry but also paints a positive picture of the future of tourism in Fiji, where local expertise can shine on both regional and global stages.
