Koleta Likuculacula netted two goals as Fiji triumphed over Tahiti 2-1 in their inaugural match at the OFC Women’s Futsal Championship held in the Solomon Islands.
The match took an exciting turn in the latter part of the first half when Tahiti took an early lead with a goal from Remeha in the 15th minute. Fiji quickly responded, with Likuculacula skillfully controlling the ball on the right side of the Tahiti box before shifting onto her left foot and launching a shot past Tahiti’s goalkeeper Corail Harry, equalizing the score.
Tahiti’s situation worsened when Ninauea Hioe received a second yellow card, reducing her team to ten players for two minutes. Though Fiji couldn’t capitalize on this advantage immediately, they eventually found the winning goal just before the match ended.
Tahiti’s goalkeeper Harry was able to stop a free-kick from Fiji’s Cema Nasau with a remarkable double save, but she could not prevent Likuculacula from scoring again, securing the victory for Fiji.
