Fiji’s Historic Run Ends: New Zealand Dominates in Futsal Final

The Fiji Women’s Futsal team finished as runners-up in the first OFC Women’s Futsal Nations Cup, facing a tough defeat against New Zealand in the final held in the Solomon Islands on Sunday.

The match began positively for Fiji, but their performance waned in the second half, allowing New Zealand to assert their dominance. New Zealand opened the scoring with an early goal from Hannah Kraakman. Libby Boobyer then added to their advantage with a powerful shot from outside the box. Fiji narrowed the deficit just before halftime, as Koleta Likuculacula scored with a left-footed shot, making it 2-1.

However, in the second half, New Zealand’s control of the game increased, leading to goals from Tessa Leong, Libby Boobyer, Jordana Bremner, and Dayna Manak, which pushed their lead to 6-1. New Zealand’s victory secured them the championship title and a place in the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup 2025, set to take place in the Philippines.
