Fiji’s Historic Leap: Junior Kulas Set to Shine at FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup

Fiji’s President, Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, has lauded the accomplishments of the Junior Kulas, a women’s soccer team, and expressed gratitude towards the coaches, management, and athletes. During a farewell gathering for the team heading to the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup in Colombia, the President highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting it as Fiji’s first participation in such a prestigious tournament.

The President acknowledged Fiji’s legacy in rugby while emphasizing the growing recognition of the country’s soccer talents on the global stage. He mentioned that Fiji has consistently surpassed expectations in various sports, and the success of the women’s soccer team marks an exciting new chapter in the nation’s athletic history.

President Katonivere also pointed out the hurdles the team has encountered, including challenges related to funding and facilities. He praised the coaching staff for their dedication in physically and mentally preparing the athletes and expressed admiration for the commitment shown by the players and their families.

He specifically recognized team manager Naziah Ali Krishna, wife of Fiji’s football captain Roy Krishna, acknowledging her crucial role and the passion she brings to the team. The President reassured the athletes of continued support from the government and the people of Fiji, as they prepare to represent the nation.

The Junior Kulas are set to compete in Pool B against France, Canada, and Brazil, with their first match against Brazil scheduled for August 31.
