The Fiji Under-20 women’s football team presented a traditional i-tatau to President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the State House in Suva on Friday in preparation for the FIFA World U20 Championship.
The President commended the team’s accomplishments and recognized the hard work of the coaches, management, and the athletes themselves. He noted, “This is truly a remarkable achievement, as this marks the first time that Fiji has a women’s team competing at such a prestigious level in the FIFA World Championship in Colombia, and it is indeed a commendable effort.”
Fiji, known for its rugby prowess, is gaining global attention through its football achievements. President Ratu Wiliame highlighted that Fiji has continuously exceeded expectations on the international sports stage.
He emphasized that the women’s football team’s success is ushering in an exciting new chapter for Fiji’s sports history, while also acknowledging the challenges the team faces, such as limited funding and infrastructure.
The President praised the coaching and management staff for their commitment to preparing the team both mentally and physically. “What you have done is something else,” he expressed, showing gratitude for their dedication.
He also recognized the sacrifices made by the players and their families and highlighted the important role of team manager Naziah Ali-Krishna. “We will continue to support and pray for the team and the management as you lead and mentor these young ladies who are about to represent Fiji,” he said.
The Fiji U20 women’s team will compete in Group B against France, Canada, and Brazil. This tournament marks a significant milestone for Fiji, showcasing the growth of women’s football in the country and inspiring future generations of athletes while uniting the nation in support of its football team on the global stage.

– August 31: 6 PM – Fiji vs Brazil
