Fiji’s Historic Day of Healing and Forgiveness

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces is hosting the inaugural RFMF Reconciliation and Restoration event at Sukunaivalu Barracks in Labasa.

The day’s activities commenced with a church service, which set a reflective and healing tone for the event.

After the service, Commander of the RFMF, Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, along with former military personnel who participated in the takeover of Sukunaivalu VC Barracks, will lead a series of talanoa sessions.

Originally, the event was expected to culminate with a traditional Fijian reconciliation ceremony, known as veisorosorovi, where the RFMF would seek forgiveness in a significant act of reconciliation. However, this part of the program has been postponed and will now take place tomorrow.

Additionally, the RFMF plans to extend its reconciliation efforts by seeking forgiveness from the Province of Macuata in a ceremony that will follow Fijian protocol.

Stay tuned for more updates during our major news bulletin at 6 this evening.
