Fiji’s High-Stakes Weekend: Are You Ready for the Deans Quarter Finals?

As excitement grows for the Fiji Secondary Schools Deans Quarter Final Competition this weekend, police operations will be ramped up to ensure a safe and incident-free environment.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci announced that attendees, including spectators and participants, should expect a stronger police presence around the venues, with a focus on maintaining order and safety.

“To ensure an incident-free tournament, we urge all stakeholders to collaborate with us so that everyone, especially our children, can enjoy the games. We ask all spectators, players, drivers, and parents to cooperate with us on Friday and Saturday,” said DCP Raikaci.

Police are particularly emphasizing the importance of following traffic laws, urging drivers to avoid alcohol consumption to prevent accidents, especially following the recent loss of a student due to speeding and drinking.

“Our priority is the safety of those traveling on the roads, and we recently lost a student due to speeding and alcohol. We want to avoid a repeat of that. Our traffic team will be actively monitoring the roads and setting up several checkpoints,” he added.

The Fiji Police Force will deploy traffic teams and establish multiple checkpoints to closely monitor vehicle movements. Additionally, they are prepared to address any disturbances among spectators, a common challenge faced in previous events.

Security measures will also include the deployment of the K-9 Unit at the entrance to check for contraband, ensuring that no illegal items disrupt the games.
