Fiji’s Healthcare Revolution: GP Fees Cut to Boost Accessibility

In a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility in Fiji, Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals has announced a substantial reduction in general practitioner (GP) consultation fees. The cost for GP consultations has dropped from $11.50 to $7.50, effective immediately for all Fijians.

PSH, a 130-bed private specialty hospital located in Nadi and Walu Bay, Suva, aims to alleviate out-of-pocket healthcare expenses and meet the community’s growing demand for affordable medical care. This decision follows productive discussions with the hospital’s newly appointed board members, which includes representatives from the Great Council of Chiefs and faith-based organizations.

Parvish Kumar, the founder and CEO of PSH Hospitals, expressed that the reduction is intended to eliminate financial barriers that many Fijians face when seeking medical assistance. “We have been engaging with community leaders and grassroots organizations and received feedback that cost remains a barrier for many Fijians seeking medical care. This reduction in GP consultation fees is part of our commitment to making healthcare more accessible,” he stated.

Despite its modern reputation for advanced medical procedures, such as open-heart surgeries and brain tumor operations, PSH remains steadfast in providing primary healthcare services through its highly trained general practitioners. To further support patients facing financial difficulties, the hospital has introduced the “Get Well Now, Pay Later” initiative, which aims to help those who require specialist care and advanced treatments.

The healthcare facility in Nadi operates around the clock, offering outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services to address the increasing demand for quality healthcare.

This initiative aligns with the broader trends in Fiji’s healthcare sector, where other hospitals, like Oceania Hospitals in Suva, are also making strides to reduce medical service costs. These efforts reflect a collective commitment across the healthcare landscape to enhance patient care and ensure communities have the support they need.

With PSH’s ongoing commitment to affordability and patient-centric care, there is a hopeful vision for a healthier future for all residents of Fiji. These changes not only make quality healthcare accessible but also strengthen the community by prioritizing health and well-being across the region.
