Fiji’s Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH Hospitals) has made a significant move to improve healthcare accessibility by reducing its general practitioner consultation fees to $7.50 for all Fijians. This initiative aligns with the hospital’s commitment to making healthcare affordable and accessible, addressing perceptions that it primarily serves an elite clientele.
PSH Hospitals, which operates a state-of-the-art 130-bed facility opposite the Nadi International Airport and in Walu Bay, Suva, aims to provide quality healthcare regardless of patients’ financial or cultural backgrounds. The founder and CEO, Parvish Kumar, stated that this reduction in GP charges from $11.50 to $7.50 was prompted by community feedback and discussions with newly appointed board members, including representatives from the Great Council of Chiefs and various faith-based organizations.
Kumar emphasized that PSH is dedicated to serving everyone equally and is not solely a specialty provider. The hospital has gained recognition for its advanced medical procedures, including complex surgeries like open-heart operations, while remaining committed to primary healthcare.
Moreover, to assist patients requiring further treatments, PSH Hospitals has introduced the “get well now, pay later” initiative, allowing those facing financial difficulties to make manageable payment arrangements. This compassionate approach aims to prioritize patient care and save lives, affirming the hospital’s mission.
PSH Hospitals operates 24/7, positioning itself as a key player in enhancing healthcare services in Fiji. While healthcare costs are often seen as a barrier, such initiatives present a hopeful outlook, suggesting that the future of healthcare in Fiji can be more inclusive and supportive for all residents.
With this commitment to affordable healthcare, PSH Hospitals is paving the way for a healthier Fiji, encouraging individuals from all walks of life to seek the medical attention they need without financial strain.
