Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad has announced ongoing negotiations with the Indian government to establish a private super specialty hospital in Fiji. During a recent budget consultation in Nadi, Prasad emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services, highlighting the planned 100-bed facility dedicated to cardiology and oncology.
“The project is set to commence shortly and represents a significant step forward in our healthcare infrastructure,” Prof. Prasad stated. Additionally, he remarked on the Australian government’s support for the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, indicating a focus on improving healthcare delivery in the region.
In the past two years, the government has prioritized negotiations with partners such as ASPEN Medical, aiming to enhance hospital services across Fiji. The proposal includes developing more private healthcare options to address the growing demand for specialized medical services.
Prasad’s insights resonate with the earlier announced collaborations involving significant investments in health infrastructure, including the anticipated development of a 305-bed hospital in Lautoka, constructed in partnership with Aspen Medical. The government’s unified approach, including support from international partners like New Zealand, aims to build a robust healthcare system capable of meeting the diverse needs of Fijians.
The efforts indicate a hopeful trajectory for Fiji’s healthcare landscape, promising improved medical services and specialized treatment availability. As these plans unfold, they show a commitment to not only local health improvement but also the potential for regional healthcare excellence.
