The Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) has joined forces with Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH), a leading 130-bed private hospital, to enhance access to quality medical services for Fijians. Chairman Ratu Viliame Seruvakula expressed his admiration for the advanced technology and expert staff at PSH during a recent tour of the facility in Nadi. He highlighted the hospital’s strategic location opposite Nadi International Airport, which is expected to attract distinguished visitors and dignitaries in need of reputable medical care, thereby boosting both healthcare and tourism in the country.
The alliance, once formalized, is anticipated to benefit not just the iTaukei community but also to foster health awareness initiatives that encourage early detection of chronic illnesses. Seruvakula noted that many individuals tend to seek medical help only when severely ill, leading to complications that could have been avoided. He expressed hope that this partnership would promote proactive health management and education throughout Fiji.
In response, PSH founder and CEO Parvish Kumar indicated that the hospital is committed to providing affordable, high-quality medical care and is eager to collaborate closely with GCC. Having GCC representation on the hospital’s board will ensure that the needs of the iTaukei community are adequately represented in decision-making processes.
Moreover, PSH’s innovative use of telemedicine is designed to extend healthcare reach to remote regions of Fiji, helping to connect patients with specialists without the need for extensive travel, thus significantly amplifying healthcare accessibility. With this initiative, PSH aims to align with governmental efforts to bolster the healthcare sector and elevate Fiji as a health tourism destination.
The collaboration between GCC and PSH signifies a progressive step forward for Fiji’s healthcare framework, promising potential economic benefits through enhanced medical tourism while improving health outcomes for local populations. This alliance illustrates a vision for not just improved individual health but also prosperity for the nation as it positions itself on the global healthcare stage.
The developments at PSH, alongside support from the GCC, represent a hopeful outlook for both healthcare access and the broader economy, suggesting that with continued commitment, Fiji can establish itself as a premier destination for health tourism and high-quality healthcare services.
