The facility was officially inaugurated last Friday, representing a significant advancement in healthcare infrastructure improvements in Fiji.

During the opening ceremony, Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu expressed heartfelt gratitude to KOICA and the Korean government for their unwavering support of Fiji’s healthcare system, particularly benefiting communities in the northern regions of the country. He highlighted the crucial role of emergency departments as the first point of contact for critically ill patients, emphasizing the need for these environments to be comfortable and reassuring during challenging times.

Dr. Lalabalavu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure throughout Fiji. He acknowledged the ongoing infrastructural challenges faced by various health facilities and the Ministry’s dedication to addressing these issues through collaborative efforts with international partners like KOICA.

This refurbishment aligns with broader initiatives to enhance Fiji’s healthcare services, including plans for the construction of a new National Rehabilitation Centre, which KOICA is supporting with a substantial grant of $22.2 million. This commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure not only signifies a hopeful outlook for the future of medical services in Fiji but also promises advancements in patient care across the nation.

In summary, the renovation of the Labasa Hospital Emergency Department marks a significant step forward in enhancing healthcare delivery within Fiji, showcasing the positive impact of international cooperation.
