Young athlete Lauren Pilla is set to make history as Fiji’s first Youth International competitor in aerobic gymnastics. Her selection to represent the nation at the AER World Cup in Tokyo, Japan in 2025 follows an impressive performance at the 2024 Australian National Clubs Carnival, where she demonstrated her exceptional skills.

Pilla’s selection was made possible through a recommendation from Deborah Greenbaum, the Australian National Youth AER Coach. Greenbaum’s development visits to Fiji have played a crucial role in enhancing the sport’s growth in the region, resulting in increased opportunities for young gymnasts like Lauren.

In Tokyo, Lauren will join Robyn Eastgate, Fiji’s Senior International athlete, further elevating Fiji’s representation on the global gymnastics stage. Their participation marks a significant milestone for aerobic gymnastics in the country and reflects the rising caliber of Fijian athletes.

The Gymnastics Federation of Fiji acknowledged the ongoing support from the Fiji National Sports Commission and the Oceania Gymnastics Union, which has been instrumental in nurturing talent within the sport. As Fiji continues to make strides in gymnastics, both Lauren’s and Robyn’s journeys offer hope and inspiration to aspiring athletes across the nation.

The spotlight on Pilla and Eastgate represents a broader trend of increasing international exposure for Fijian gymnasts, showcasing their dedication to excellence and paving the way for future generations in the sport. This momentum illustrates the potential for Fijian athletes to gain recognition on international platforms, fueling optimism for the future of gymnastics in Fiji.
