Last Saturday, over 150 attendees filled the Vodafone Arena in Suva for the AeroGym Fiji Showcase, celebrating the remarkable talents of young gymnasts and marking a significant milestone in the growth of gymnastics in Fiji. Organized by Josiemaraya Ryland, the founder and head coach of AeroGym Fiji, this inspiring event featured participants from the AeroGym Fiji Club, alongside special guests from the Flight Club in Lautoka.
Many of the showcased gymnasts are preparing for the National Clubs Carnival scheduled for the Gold Coast this September, as well as the esteemed Suzuki World Cup set for 2026. Maria Alvarado, a director with the Gymnastics Federation of Fiji, lauded the event, stating, “What we witnessed today goes far beyond performance; it is about building character, confidence, and community.” She recognized the valuable efforts of Coach Josiemaraya and his team in promoting gymnastics in Fiji, emphasizing how such events help lay the groundwork for future international success.
The event was supported by representatives from the Gymnastics Federation of Fiji, the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), and the Fiji National Sports Commission (FNSC), indicating a united institutional backing for the sport’s development.
This showcase resonates with recent initiatives within Fiji that have been fostering a thriving gymnastics community. For instance, similar successful events have been held across the nation, focusing on the nurturing and development of young athletes. The increasing number of competitions not only highlights the growing talent pool but also the collaborative efforts from coaches and institutions aimed at boosting athletes’ confidence and skills in preparation for future competitions.
With such strong support and a vibrant community rallying behind these young gymnasts, the future of gymnastics in Fiji looks promising. Events like the AeroGym Fiji Showcase not only inspire the next generation of athletes but also strengthen the country’s presence on the international gymnastics scene. The journey ahead is filled with potential for these aspiring sportspeople as they strive for excellence.
