The Rosie Travel Group is making significant strides in sustainable tourism with its recent acquisition of Fiji’s inaugural fleet of electric tourist coaches, which amounts to an investment of $1.5 million. This initiative is part of the company’s broader objective to convert 50% of its transport fleet to electric vehicles by 2030.

The agreement for the 53-seater electric coaches was signed in China, marking a significant step towards greener transportation for international visitors traveling to Fiji. The first two coaches are expected to arrive by July 2025. General Manager Eroni Puamau emphasized the company’s dedication to environmental sustainability, highlighting that their journey into electric transportation began three years ago with extensive research into electric vehicle manufacturers in China. The partnership with Bonluck Bus & Coach Group (BBCG) ensures that the coaches will feature advanced battery-electric technology, with a range of up to 300 kilometers, luxurious interiors, and ample luggage space.

This initiative has garnered support from various stakeholders, including Ken Lee, Executive Director of BBCG, who noted the collaboration’s potential to transform transportation in Fiji’s tourism sector. Tony Whitton, Managing Director of Rosie Travel Group, pointed out that with over 200,000 international visitors every year, adopting electric alternatives is crucial in reducing Fiji’s carbon footprint. He also highlighted the importance of leveraging both China’s expertise in electric vehicle technology and Fiji’s solar energy potential.

Adding to their sustainability efforts, Rosie Travel Group is investing in fast-charging solar panels, ensuring that their electric coaches and vehicles will operate entirely on solar energy. This aligns with their zero-emission vision, which they began implementing last year with luxury EV private transfers. The company’s ambitious goal of going electric by 2030 illustrates a growing commitment towards sustainable tourism practices.

This positive action by Rosie Travel Group not only contributes to the global movement towards sustainability but also enhances Fiji’s appeal as an eco-friendly travel destination, paving the way for a greener tourism future.
