The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) has partnered with Tourism Fiji in a three-year initiative to promote sustainable tourism and environmental care. Amitesh Deo, the founder of PRF, emphasized the partnership’s role in developing a circular economy and enhancing environmental responsibility.
The collaboration will launch the I-Recycle program to improve recycling efforts in key tourist areas and tackle litter challenges to foster cleaner surroundings. Leigh Howard, Chief Operating Officer of Tourism Fiji, expressed enthusiasm for weaving sustainability into the visitor experience, ensuring that Fiji remains a premier destination dedicated to environmental preservation.
Additionally, a Visitor Carbon Footprint Program will encourage tourists to adopt sustainable practices by allowing them to offset their carbon footprints during their visits. This partnership marks PRF’s first long-term effort since its strategic planning in March 2024, underlining the crucial role of recycling and sustainability in Fiji’s tourism industry and its impact on local communities.
