Fiji’s Green Revolution: A Bold Step Towards Sustainable Tourism

The Pacific Recycling Foundation and Tourism Fiji have launched a three-year partnership focused on promoting sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship. Amitesh Deo, the Founder of the Pacific Recycling Foundation, emphasized the importance of this partnership in fostering a circular economy and enhancing environmental awareness.

The collaboration will introduce the I-Recycle program, aimed at improving recycling initiatives in key tourist areas and tackling litter problems to foster a cleaner environment. Leigh Howard, the Chief Operating Officer of Tourism Fiji, expressed pride in weaving sustainability into the visitor experience, ensuring that Fiji continues to be recognized as a world-class destination dedicated to environmental conservation.

Additionally, a Visitor Carbon Footprint Program will encourage tourists to adopt sustainable practices by allowing them to offset their carbon footprint during their visit. This partnership marks the Pacific Recycling Foundation’s first long-term initiative since its strategic planning in March 2024, underlining the critical role of recycling and sustainability in Fiji’s tourism industry and its impact on local communities.
