Fiji’s Green Gem: The Transformation of Ratu Sukuna Park

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica is urging all Fijians to take an active role in preserving the newly renovated Ratu Sukuna Park, which had an investment of $7 million. During the park’s inauguration ceremony on Monday evening, he highlighted the necessity of keeping the park as a source of comfort and pride for future generations.

Mr. Kamikamica noted that the revamped park represents a significant transformation from its previous state, symbolizing the nation’s advancement and dedication to urban renewal.

“This upgraded park now includes modern facilities such as a new podium structure, designer night lights, contemporary park furnishings, a digital screen with surround sound, and enhanced landscaping that effectively integrates hardscape with greenery,” he stated.

He added that the new water feature enhances the monument of Ratu Sukuna, creating a peaceful atmosphere within the park.

“This park offers more than just a green area; it serves as an island of calm in our vibrant city, promoting tranquility, creativity, and a new beginning,” he remarked.

Mr. Kamikamica emphasized that parks like Ratu Sukuna are vital for the health and well-being of communities.

“They provide a venue for families to come together, a playground for children, and a retreat for individuals seeking solace in nature. These areas are crucial to the livability of our cities, making them conducive to thriving, not just existing,” he expressed.

He called upon everyone to collaborate in further enhancing Suva as a city rich in nature, thereby maintaining its recognition as one of the top cities for environmental efforts according to the Global Cities Index.
