The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) and Tourism Fiji have partnered for three years to promote sustainable tourism and environmental responsibility. Amitesh Deo, the founder of PRF, underscored the partnership’s role in developing a circular economy and enhancing environmental stewardship.
As part of this collaboration, the I-Recycle program will be launched to boost recycling initiatives in key tourist areas and tackle litter problems, aiming for a cleaner environment. Leigh Howard, Chief Operating Officer of Tourism Fiji, mentioned the organization’s commitment to incorporating sustainability into the visitor experience, ensuring that Fiji remains a top-notch destination dedicated to environmental conservation.
Additionally, a Visitor Carbon Footprint Program will encourage tourists to adopt sustainable practices and mitigate their carbon footprint while visiting. This partnership marks PRF’s first long-term strategy since its planning phase in March 2024, highlighting the critical role of recycling and sustainability in supporting Fiji’s tourism industry and local communities.
