The Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) is set to kick off its first biannual forum for 2026 today, bringing together chiefs and representatives from Fiji’s 14 provinces as well as Rotuma. This two-day gathering aims to address crucial developments and progress reports from its Sub-Committees since their previous assembly in November of last year.
During the forum, updates will be provided by the Sub-Committees focused on significant areas such as education, cultural revitalization, community resilience, and stakeholder engagement. These discussions are vital for fostering collaborative efforts among communities and enhancing the social and economic fabric of Fiji.
At last year’s forum, chiefs emphasized the importance of improving village-level resilience, encouraging communities to strategically allocate development funds to ensure sustainable growth. The insights and outcomes from this year’s discussions are anticipated to further empower local leaders in their mission to strengthen the communities they represent. As the GCC convenes, there is a hopeful outlook for meaningful progress and united efforts towards the development of Fiji’s provinces.
