The Coalition Government of Fiji remains committed to prioritizing the needs of its citizens rather than aiming for electoral gains, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad. During the national budget consultation held in Dreketi, Prasad reiterated the government’s focus on rectifying economic policies and investing in sectors that significantly affect everyday life.

Prasad acknowledged that much work lies ahead, stating, “We have a lot more to do in these two years… We want to do the right thing.” As part of its strategy, the upcoming national budget is set to direct increased resources toward health, education, infrastructure, and agriculture—all critical areas for enhancing living standards in Fiji. Importantly, the government has emphasized its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and ensuring that no one is left behind, with proposed assistance mechanisms included in the budgeting process.

Prasad’s comments echo the Coalition Government’s overall strategy aimed at fostering transparency and inclusiveness in its financial decisions, encouraging citizens to participate in consultations to provide feedback and ideas. This ongoing engagement symbolizes a shift towards a more collaborative approach to governance, where community voices play an active role in shaping the direction of national policies.

The commitment to developing a more resilient economy is also reflected in earlier discussions by Prasad, where he emphasized the importance of fiscal responsibility and strategic investments in key sectors for sustained growth. By focusing on essential infrastructure and healthcare improvements, alongside advancements in education, Fiji aims to navigate current economic challenges while aiming for better futures for its citizens.

This optimistic outlook, rooted in transparency and community involvement, positions Fiji on a path toward significant progress, empowering its citizens through shared governance and proactive economic strategies.
