Fiji’s Government Faces Scrutiny Amid Inquiry Claims

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that the cabinet will soon present a document regarding the investigation, or Commission of Inquiry, into allegations made by former Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, Francis Puleiwai.

In a media briefing, Rabuka explained that this document will outline the ‘Terms of Reference’ and objectives for the Commission’s members, which will be considered by the Cabinet. He emphasized that this matter is crucial for the credibility of the Government and all its institutions, which require attention.

Rabuka acknowledged that while past actions cannot be changed, the Government aims to prevent similar occurrences in the future. He stated, “If anyone has violated orders, laws, or regulations, they will be thoroughly addressed.”

When asked about Puleiwai’s claims of being targeted by government agents, the Prime Minister insisted that such actions could not have originated from the Government he leads. Rabuka suggested that if Puleiwai feels unsafe in Fiji, she should file a complaint with the Police. He assured that she is welcome to return to the country.

He also noted that a report concerning Puleiwai was retracted by ABC due to doubts about the credibility of her allegations. The Prime Minister reassured all Fijians that their safety is a priority.
