The Fiji Police Force is currently conducting investigations into nine cases related to the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed that several of these cases were already in progress within the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) prior to the report’s release. He provided an update at a recent press conference in Nasinu, outlining the current status and scope of the investigations.

Among the ongoing investigations, three additional cases have emerged following formal referrals and complaints, including a significant inquiry prompted by a complaint from Frances Pulewai, the former Acting Deputy Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). This complaint alleges obstruction and abuse of office concerning the arrest of the suspended FICAC commissioner.

Commissioner Tudravu highlighted the priority placed on these investigations, stating that they are being handled with utmost care to ensure thoroughness and transparency. One investigation file has already been sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice, while more files are being compiled and further investigations are ongoing.

This proactive response to the issues raised in the COI report reflects a commitment to enhancing transparency and accountability in Fiji’s governance. Past articles have noted the importance of these inquiries, with hopes within the community that they will lead to necessary reforms and rebuild public trust in governmental institutions.

As the investigation unfolds, there is an optimistic outlook that the actions taken by the police will foster a political environment rooted in ethical standards and accountability, marking a pivotal moment for improving governance in Fiji. The community’s anticipation for meaningful changes resonates with a broader desire for ethical governance, representing a hopeful step toward strengthening Fiji’s political landscape.
