Opposition Member of Parliament Jone Usamate is calling on the government to heed a recent legal opinion from a King’s Counsel concerning the authority of the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) to suspend Barbara Malimali, the Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). This opinion asserts that the JSC does possess the power to take such action, despite its previous determination to the contrary.
Usamate emphasized the need for the government to demonstrate its commitment to equality and adherence to the rule of law.
