A specialized team within the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been set up to review the recently received Commission of Inquiry (COI) report, as confirmed by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. This development follows the official handover of the report from Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to the Commissioner.
Following the meeting where the report was presented, discussions about preliminary assessments and informal questioning have already begun, highlighting a proactive approach in the internal review process. Commissioner Tudravu stated that a dedicated team is responsible for evaluating the COI findings and will provide recommendations on future actions regarding potential investigations.
Prime Minister Rabuka has indicated that the public release of the report will hinge on the outcome of the police’s initial review. He emphasized that while the report can eventually be made public, it must first align with recommendations from the Commissioner of Police.
This COI report addresses significant concerns, particularly regarding the appointment practices relating to former FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali, echoing sentiments from earlier announcements. These inquiries aim to enhance public trust and ensure accountability within Fiji’s governance structures.
Many in the community hope that the investigation will catalyze essential reforms, fostering a government framework that emphasizes transparency and ethical standards. This inquiry represents a critical moment for Fiji, as it seeks to restore public confidence in its institutions and move towards more accountable governance practices, reflecting a collective aspiration for improvement in the political landscape.
