Punjas Group of Companies, one of the largest privately-owned enterprises in Fiji, has announced the opening of a new $55 million distribution center in the Western Division as it prepares for its 90th anniversary next year. This state-of-the-art facility, currently under construction in Lautoka, is anticipated to be the largest warehouse in the Pacific, boasting a storage capacity for 24,000 pallets.
The development is a crucial part of Punjas’ expansion strategy, aimed at enhancing the supply chain capabilities across Fiji and the broader Pacific region in response to the escalating demand for various consumer goods. Recently, the Punjas team welcomed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Prof. Biman Prasad, for a tour of the facility, where they highlighted the company’s importance to both the local economy and its growing international market presence.
Mr. Prasad emphasized the investment’s significance not only for Punjas but for the entire Pacific region, stating that it would improve the efficiency of regional supply chains, create new economic opportunities, and bolster Fiji’s status in the growing Pacific market.
Established in 1935 and currently employing over 1,500 workers, Punjas is on track to celebrate its 90th anniversary. The Deputy Prime Minister also visited the company’s corporate headquarters and biscuit manufacturing operations, which are vital to its expansive distribution network. Discussions with senior directors Kanti Punja and Jagjiwan Punja revolved around the company’s vision for future growth and its role in fostering economic development.
In addition to the distribution center, Punjas recently celebrated a $2.25 million investment in the expansion of the Punjas Medical Centre through its Punjas Charity Trust, aimed at increasing accessible medical care for the community. The company has also extended the Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Fijian residents.
This ambitious project not only showcases Punjas’ growth but also reflects a hopeful vision for the future, contributing positively to the economy while enriching the community’s wellbeing.
In summary, the new distribution center marks a significant milestone for Punjas Group, poised to strengthen Fiji’s economy and improve living standards while celebrating nearly a century of service in the region.
