Fiji is set to enhance its business environment with the upcoming launch of the Building Permits Approval Subsystem under the businessNOW Fiji program, scheduled for October. This significant development was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica during the Fourth Working Committee Meeting related to the Ease of Doing Business project.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the system has advanced from the development stage into an important implementation phase, which includes user-acceptance testing, staff training, and pilot runs. He characterized this initiative as a fundamental reform intended to foster public trust, decrease bureaucratic obstacles, and encourage investment in the country.

Highlighting the success of the previously introduced Starting a Business Subsystem, which has resulted in expedited processing times and improved user uptake, Kamikamica urged all agencies to maintain a collaborative effort to ensure a smooth rollout of the new system. He stressed the necessity for rapid legislative action, emphasizing that delays in cabinet paperwork and publication must be avoided to ensure the system’s functionality is not hindered.

Kamikamica noted that this initiative is not merely a technical undertaking; it is a national priority aimed at making real improvements in how government serves its people and supports the economy. He recognized the importance of change management and the human aspect behind digital reform.

The reforms in Fiji’s business processes reflect ongoing efforts in transforming the country into a more efficient and attractive destination for investment. The government’s dedication to digital solutions and streamlining administrative procedures indicates a hopeful path toward fostering sustainable economic growth.

As part of the broader digital transformation agenda, previous initiatives have already laid a solid foundation for improving service delivery, and the new subsystem promises to further enhance operational efficiencies across various sectors. This optimistic trajectory suggests that Fiji is on its way to becoming a more business-friendly environment, encouraging innovation and supporting economic resilience in the long term.
