A new initiative aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and potentially benefiting over 60,000 individuals will be launched in Fiji soon, according to World Bank President Ajay Banga. The World Bank is collaborating with the Fijian government on multiple projects, one of which includes addressing healthcare challenges.

During a recent visit to Nuffield Health Clinic in Tamavua, Banga emphasized their eagerness to assist Fiji in various areas. “In addition to healthcare and resilience against climate challenges, we are also focused on diversifying Fiji’s economy,” he stated. This diversification aims to create opportunities for young people, encouraging them to remain in their country and harness their enthusiasm to foster growth.

To achieve these goals, the involvement of a vibrant private sector is necessary. Banga mentioned that discussions with private sector representatives are also on the agenda to explore how they can further support Fiji’s economic development.

The upcoming tourism development scheme, which will emphasize sustainable practices, will be launched in collaboration with the Fijian government and involve private sector participation. It is projected to assist approximately 60,000 people once fully operational. The launch is anticipated either this month or next.
