Fiji’s Future: Youth Lead the Charge for Environmental Change at ROG Forum

Fiji has witnessed a significant gathering of future environmental leaders at the 2025 Recycling on the Go (ROG) Ambassadors Leadership Forum, which took place at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi. This event saw the collaboration of students, educators, and community leaders who came together to discuss strategies for improving recycling and sustainability within Fijian schools and communities.

Educational Minister Aseri Radrodro praised student ambassadors from various schools, including Jai Narayan College, Queen Victoria School, Jasper Williams High School, Nadi Sangam Primary School, and Holy Cross College. He highlighted their leadership in advancing responsible waste management practices. “I call on all school committees, teachers, parents, and students to take pride in the work of the ROG Ambassadors and to continue promoting sustainable practices within our schools and communities,” Minister Radrodro stated, emphasizing the vital role of youth in fostering sustainability initiatives.

The forum also featured prominent attendees, including Lenora Qereqeretabua, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Amitesh Deo, Founder of the Pacific Recycling Foundation, and Alex Pattison, Regional Manager of Swire Shipping. Their presence underscored strong support for efforts led by young people aimed at creating more sustainable practices. Additionally, the Fiji Drua rugby team showed their commitment to the cause by participating in the event.

The ROG Ambassadors Program is on an upward trajectory, with students from Holy Cross College observing the discussions prior to their official involvement. The initiative focuses on empowering students to address environmental challenges and promoting community engagement in effective waste management practices.

This forum represents a hopeful step towards nurturing a generation committed to environmental stewardship. By mobilizing youth and fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, Fiji is taking positive strides towards a sustainable future.
