With school holidays currently in session, RT Xtreme Fiji has taken the initiative to offer taekwondo training sessions for young athletes in the Suva, Nakasi, and Nausori areas. Held at the Shiv Temple Hall in Samabula, Suva, these classes attracted over 60 eager students who are keen to learn. The sessions are being led by taekwondo Grand Master and Olympic coach Andy Rutten, who emphasizes the importance of raising the sport’s standards.
Rutten expressed that the objective of the training camp is not just to impart techniques but to inspire the students with the same level of taekwondo practiced at the Olympic Games. His aim is to convey essential skills, motivation, and the significance of the connection between body and mind, stressing the importance of physical fitness as well.
The positive energy in the room was palpable, with Rutten noting that the enthusiasm among the young learners was impressive. He pointed out that many of the children are already grasping modern taekwondo techniques effectively.
Pranit Kumar, head instructor at RT Xtreme Fiji, also played a crucial role in preparing the young participants, introducing them to Olympic-standard training from the onset. Kumar expressed delight in the students’ progress and engagement, indicating that a solid foundation for modern taekwondo has been laid for them.
The enthusiasm for such training camps resonates with recent trends in Fiji, where initiatives are being put in place to encourage youth participation in taekwondo. This commitment reflects a broader goal to cultivate future generations of athletes capable of competing at prestigious events like the Olympics and Oceania Games.
As the sessions conclude today, the hope remains high that these training initiatives will continue fostering a strong athletic culture within Fiji, supporting young people in developing their skills and perhaps leading them to become future champions in the sport. Such efforts not only enhance athletic talent but also contribute positively to the physical and mental well-being of the youth.
