Fijian Under-20 rugby forward Iliesa Erenavula is optimistic about the future of Fiji rugby, emphasizing that fielding a younger team in the Oceania Rugby Under-20 Championship signifies potential growth for the sport in the nation. Many players in the Fiji U20 squad have emerged from the Deans Trophy competition, showcasing fresh talent that Erenavula believes will contribute to a brighter future for the team.

Erenavula, one of four returning players from last year’s squad, highlighted the importance of this opportunity for younger athletes. “It’s a great boost for the younger players, they get that early chance at playing at this level,” he stated. Transitioning from schools’ rugby to the Under 20 level enables these players to enhance their professionalism and skills on the field.

As the grandson of former Fiji 7s international Luke Erenavula, Iliesa’s aspirations in rugby are very personal. He expresses a strong desire to advance to the Fijian Drua or other top-tier rugby competitions. “I’ve always wanted to play rugby, and my aim is to make it to the Fijian Drua or top-level rugby. I’m focused on my aim, but it will take a lot of work and sacrifice to get there,” he reflected.

This commitment from Erenavula and his teammates illustrates the promising landscape of rugby in Fiji, as they work hard to pursue their dreams while inspiring future generations of players. Their dedication is a testament to the growing potential in Fijian rugby, offering hope for a successful journey ahead.
