Recently, twenty-four students proudly graduated from the Junior Diplomacy Training Program organized by the United Nations Association of Fiji (UNA Fiji). This program aims to provide essential skills in diplomacy, public speaking, and leadership, with the graduates completing a total of 108 hours of rigorous training.

The graduation ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Lenora Qereqeretabua, the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, who commended the graduates for their hard work and encouraged them to emerge as climate champions and future leaders of Fiji. “Your journey does not end here; take your skills and knowledge to advocate for our environment and communities,” she urged.

Special awards were presented to selected graduates, recognizing their proactivity, commitment to excellence in diplomacy, outstanding community service, and embodiment of UNA Fiji values. This acknowledgment not only celebrates individual achievements but aims to inspire all participants to continue their efforts in diplomatic and leadership roles.

The event unfolded at the FBE Lecture Theatre, University of the South Pacific, where family, friends, and special guests gathered to support the graduates. The influence of such programs cannot be overstated, as they play a significant role in shaping a new generation equipped to tackle global challenges, especially those pertaining to climate change and collective diplomacy.

Similar initiatives have been highlighted in past articles, showcasing the importance of diplomatic training in Fiji, particularly concerning climate action and leadership in the region. For instance, a recent graduation of 16 participants from another UNA Fiji program emphasized the necessity of a united voice in addressing climate change’s pressing issues.

As these young graduates step into their futures, their dedication and commitment offer hope for Fiji’s leadership landscape, especially in engaging with crucial international discussions on climate and sustainability. Their experiences in the program are a reminder of the potential that lies in equipping youth with the skills to effect meaningful change.
