Fiji’s Future Football Stars Prepare for OFC U15 Tournament!

Fiji’s under-15 boys’ football team is gearing up for the upcoming OFC U15 Boys Youth Development Tournament in New Zealand, scheduled for April 15 to 23, 2025. Johan Leewai, the team’s assistant coach and manager, expressed his desire for the players to showcase their skills and compete with honor, emphasizing the importance of establishing their football careers early on.

After a competitive trial process that narrowed down an initial squad of 40 players to 23, the selected players are currently engaged in an intensive training camp at the Fiji Football Academy in Ba. Head coach Marika Rodu is leading the squad through rigorous daily training sessions aimed at honing their technical and tactical skills, fostering a deep understanding of the game, and adapting to various match situations.

Leewai highlighted the significance of having players who can quickly grasp and anticipate the tactical elements of their training. The atmosphere within the training camp has been positive, with players forming strong bonds and camaraderie in preparation for their regional competition.

The final squad of 16 players that will represent Fiji in New Zealand is expected to be finalized on April 7, just a week ahead of their departure. The team aims to leave a mark on the regional stage as they face some of the best young talents from the Pacific islands.

This focus on youth development not only enhances the players’ skills but also reflects Fiji’s broader commitment to nurturing young athletes across various sport categories. Building on the successes of previous age-group tournaments, this initiative is designed to inspire future generations, fostering a culture of excellence in Fijian football. With dedication and hard work, the young players have the opportunity to excel on the international stage, contributing to the growth of football in their country.
