The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced new regulated prices for various fuel products, including Unleaded Petrol (Motor Spirit), Premix, Kerosene, Diesel, and LPG, effective January 1, 2025. These prices are based on imports made by fuel and LPG companies in November 2024, reflecting a one-month review period.
According to the FCCC’s analysis, the prices for Motor Spirit and Premix will remain steady, thanks to favorable trends in international fuel prices and freight rates, even in light of a stronger US dollar. In contrast, prices for Kerosene and Diesel are expected to rise, driven by heightened international fuel costs and the stronger dollar. Furthermore, the costs of LPG are also slated to increase due to climbing Butane Contract Prices and rising international demand.
The FCCC has committed to enforcing these new prices and will actively monitor compliance at both wholesale and retail levels. Consumers are encouraged to report any discrepancies they encounter in pricing. The Enforcement Team will be available across various regions to support adherence to these regulations.
As the new pricing policy approaches, the public is urged to stay informed by checking for updates at fuel outlets, ensuring transparency and fairness in the market.
This decision by the FCCC highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain fair pricing in a fluctuating international market, presenting an opportunity for consumers to be vigilant and proactive regarding fuel costs. The monitoring initiatives also reinforce the importance of consumer participation in reporting inconsistencies, promoting an inclusive approach to maintaining market integrity.
