The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced the new regulated prices for Unleaded Petrol (Motor Spirit), Premix, Kerosene, Diesel, and LPG products, which will take effect on January 1, 2025. These prices reflect the import costs incurred by fuel and LPG companies in November 2024, following a one-month delay for review.

FCCC’s analysis indicates that prices for Motor Spirit and Premix will remain stable, thanks to favorable international fuel prices and freight rates, despite the strength of the US dollar. Conversely, Kerosene and Diesel prices are set to increase due to rising international fuel costs and the stronger dollar. Additionally, LPG prices are expected to rise as a result of higher Butane Contract Prices and increased demand from global markets.

To ensure compliance with the new pricing, the FCCC has stated that its Enforcement Team will monitor wholesale and retail outlets. Consumers are encouraged to report any pricing inconsistencies, and FCCC representatives will be available in various regions to address concerns.

As these changes approach, the public is urged to stay informed and check for updates at their local fuel outlets.

In light of these developments, the FCCC’s proactive approach to price regulation and enforcement is commendable. It not only seeks to maintain fair pricing for consumers but also emphasizes consumer involvement in reporting discrepancies, fostering a collaborative environment aimed at transparency and accountability.
