Fiji’s Fuel and LPG Prices on the Rise: What You Need to Know!

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced new fuel and LPG prices for September 2024, effective from September 1. The revised prices are as follows:

– Motor Spirit: $2.90 (an increase of $0.03 or 1.05%)
– Premix: $2.72 (an increase of $0.01 or 0.37%)
– Kerosene: $1.93 (a decrease of $0.02 or 1.03%)
– Diesel: $2.50 (a decrease of $0.02 or 0.79%)

Additionally, LPG prices have also been adjusted:

– 4.5 Kg Cylinder: $14.86 (an increase of $0.13 or 0.88%)
– 12 Kg Cylinder: $39.63 (an increase of $0.35 or 0.89%)
– Bulk LPG: $3.06/kg (an increase of $0.03 or 0.99%)
– Autogas: $2.15/litre (an increase of $0.03 or 1.42%)

These price changes are influenced by factors such as international refined fuel prices, freight rates, and exchange rate variations based on imports from July 2024. The observed increases in motor spirit and premix prices, alongside the decreases in kerosene and diesel, are linked to fluctuations in international prices and currency exchange rates. The increases in LPG prices are primarily due to stable butane contract prices, rising freight costs, and a stronger US dollar against the Fijian dollar.

The FCCC plans to monitor compliance with these new prices through inspections and encourages consumers to report any unfair practices.
