Fiji’s Footballers Gear Up for World Cup Qualifiers with Star Player Roy Krishna

National striker Roy Krishna, who is also the leading goal scorer in Oceania football, will be a key player for Fiji as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Oceania Qualifiers next month. Krishna holds the record as Fiji’s most-capped player, having represented the nation for 16 years.

Fiji’s Football CEO, Mohammed Yusuf, mentioned that the team has been training effectively, having recently taken part in a Tri-Nations series against Solomon Islands and Hong Kong China, where they secured a victory against the Solomon Islands and a draw with Hong Kong.

The Bula Boys are set to depart for Papua New Guinea on November 9 for two upcoming matches. Krishna is scheduled to arrive on October 6 and participate in a match on October 10 before heading back to India on October 12 to return to the team in PNG. Despite recently turning 37, Krishna continues to play for his team in the Indian Super League.

Yusuf noted the strong integration of experienced players like Samuela Kautoga, Setareki Hughes, Akuila Mateisuva, and Krishna with the younger squad members. Coach Rob Sherman and his management team are currently developing a game plan for the match against the Solomon Islands.

“Every team has a good chance, and everybody has been preparing well,” Yusuf stated. “We have confidence in this team, and we hope to begin with a win against the Solomon Islands.” The World Cup qualifying fixtures for Fiji include a match against the Solomon Islands on October 10 at HFC Bank Stadium and matches against Papua New Guinea on November 14 and New Caledonia on November 17, both taking place at PNG Football Stadium.
