Fiji’s national football striker and leading goal scorer in Oceania, Roy Krishna, is confirmed to participate in the team’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Oceania Qualifiers next month. The seasoned player, who has been representing Fiji for 16 years, holds the record for the most caps in the national team.
Fiji Football’s CEO, Mohammed Yusuf, shared that the team has been gearing up well through the recent Tri-Nations series against the Solomon Islands and Hong Kong China. Fiji achieved a victory over the Solomon Islands and secured a draw against Hong Kong.
The Bula Boys are set to travel to Papua New Guinea on November 9 for two matches. Yusuf mentioned that Krishna will arrive on October 6 and compete on October 10 before returning to India on October 12 to rejoin the team in Papua New Guinea. At 37 years old, Krishna continues to play for Odisha in the Indian Super League.
Yusuf noted that experienced players like Samuela Kautoga, Setareki Hughes, Akuila Mateisuva, and Krishna are integrating well with the younger members of the squad. Coach Rob Sherman and the team management will devise a strategy for the upcoming match against the Solomon Islands.
“We believe every team is capable, and everyone is preparing diligently,” Yusuf stated. “We have confidence in this team, and we hope to start with a win against the Solomon Islands.” The fixtures for the World Cup Qualifiers include Fiji versus Solomon Islands on October 10 at HFC Bank Stadium in Fiji, Fiji against Papua New Guinea on November 14 at PNG Football Stadium, and Fiji facing New Caledonia on November 17, also at PNG Football Stadium.
