Fiji’s national football team, led by top Oceania goal scorer Roy Krishna, is gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Oceania Qualifiers set to commence next month. Krishna, who is also the most-capped player for Fiji with 16 years of international experience, will be a key player in the upcoming matches.
Fiji Football CEO Mohammed Yusuf highlighted the team’s solid preparations, including participation in the recent Tri-Nations series against the Solomon Islands and Hong Kong, where Fiji achieved a victory over the Solomon Islands and secured a draw with Hong Kong.
The Bula Boys are scheduled to depart for Papua New Guinea on November 9 for two matches. “Roy Krishna will arrive on October 6 and will play in the match on October 10,” Yusuf confirmed. After the October 10 game, Krishna plans to return to India on October 12 before rejoining the team in Papua New Guinea.
At 37 years old, Krishna continues to play for his club, Odisha, in the Indian Super League. Alongside experienced players like Samuela Kautoga, Setareki Hughes, and Akuila Mateisuva, Krishna is helping to nurture younger talents within the squad, according to Yusuf.
Yusuf mentioned that coach Rob Sherman and the team management are developing a game plan to face the Solomon Islands. “Every team has a strong chance, and everyone has been preparing well,” he noted. “We have confidence in this team and are hopeful for a victory against the Solomon Islands.”
The fixtures for the World Cup Qualifiers include:
– Fiji vs. Solomon Islands on October 10 at HFC Bank Stadium, Fiji
– Fiji vs. Papua New Guinea on November 14 at PNG Football Stadium
