Fiji’s Football Future: Roy Krishna Leads the Charge for World Cup Glory!

National striker and leading goal scorer in Oceania, Roy Krishna, is set to play a key role in Fiji’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Oceania Qualifiers next month. Krishna, who is Fiji’s most-capped footballer with 16 years of international experience, will be an integral part of the team’s strategy.

Fiji Football CEO Mohammed Yusuf stated that the team has been training effectively, evidenced by their performances in the recent Tri-Nations series against the Solomon Islands and Hong Kong China. Fiji managed to secure a victory against Solomon Islands and settled for a 1-all draw with Hong Kong.

The Bula Boys are scheduled to depart for Papua New Guinea on November 9 for two important matches. Krishna is expected to arrive on October 6 and participate in a match on October 10 before flying back to India on October 12. He will then rejoin the team in PNG. Despite having turned 37 in August, Krishna continues to compete with his club in the Indian Super League.

Yusuf highlighted that experienced players like Samuela Kautoga, Setareki Hughes, Akuila Mateisuva, and Krishna are harmonizing well with younger team members. He mentioned that coach Rob Sherman and the team management are focusing on developing a strategic game plan for the upcoming match against the Solomon Islands.

“There is strong potential in every team, and all have been preparing diligently,” Yusuf commented. “We have confidence in this team and hope to begin with a win against the Solomon Islands.”

The fixtures for the World Cup Qualifiers include Fiji versus Solomon Islands on October 10 at HFC Bank Stadium in Fiji, Fiji versus Papua New Guinea on November 14 at PNG Football Stadium, and Fiji versus New Caledonia on November 17 at PNG Football Stadium.
