Fiji’s national striker and leading goal scorer in Oceania, Roy Krishna, is set to start in the team’s preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Oceania Qualifiers next month. Krishna, who has represented Fiji for 16 years, is also the country’s most-capped footballer.

Fiji Football’s chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf, stated that the team has been training effectively following their participation in the Tri-Nations series against the Solomon Islands and Hong Kong. In this series, Fiji secured a victory over the Solomon Islands and drew 1-1 with Hong Kong.

The Bula Boys will depart for Papua New Guinea on November 9 for two matches. Yusuf confirmed that Krishna would arrive on October 6 to participate in a match on October 10 before returning to India and then rejoining the team in Papua New Guinea. At 37 years old, Krishna continues to play for his club, Odisha, in the Indian Super League.

Yusuf mentioned that experienced players such as Samuela Kautoga, Setareki Hughes, Akuila Mateisuva, and Krishna are integrating well with the younger squad members. Coach Rob Sherman and the team management are preparing a strategic game plan for their match against the Solomon Islands.

Yusuf expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, stating, “Every team has a good chance, and everybody has been preparing well.” He hopes the team will secure a victory against the Solomon Islands.

The fixtures for the World Cup Qualifiers include Fiji vs. Solomon Islands on October 10 at HFC Bank Stadium in Fiji, Fiji vs. Papua New Guinea on November 14 at PNG Football Stadium, and Fiji vs. New Caledonia on November 17 at PNG Football Stadium.
