Former star rugby winger Sireli Bobo is confident that the Flying Fijians can upset Ireland in their upcoming Test match this Sunday morning (Fiji time). Reflecting on the team’s recent performance, Bobo pointed out that the players have displayed remarkable resilience, notably recovering from a tough 57-17 loss to Scotland to secure wins against both Wales and Spain.
Bobo, who co-coached Nadroga to victory in this year’s Skipper Cup competition, praised the team for their convincing victories over Wales and Spain, emphasizing that the players need to be focused and mentally prepared for the challenge against Ireland. “If they are ready on game day and have the mindset to win, they can certainly do it again,” Bobo stated.
Despite the team’s past struggles against Ireland, which has historically been challenging, Bobo believes this is the moment for the Flying Fijians to rewrite their history. He pointed to the emergence of strong playmakers such as Caleb Muntz and Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula, which he feels enhances Fiji’s chances of success.
The Flying Fijians will also benefit from the addition of Stade Francais winger Peniasi Dakuwaqa, who steps in for the suspended Semi Radradra. Dakuwaqa made an impressive debut earlier this year, scoring two tries against Georgia.
Bobo expressed his trust in head coach Mick Byrne, believing he knows the best combinations of players to succeed against Ireland. Meanwhile, Ireland scrum coach John Fogarty acknowledged Fiji’s development since their last encounter, recognizing them as a formidable opponent in all game aspects.
The much-anticipated match is scheduled to kick off at 3:10 AM Fiji time, and Bobo has emphasized the importance of patience and strategic play as crucial factors in overcoming the Irish side.
This encounter presents a significant opportunity for the Flying Fijians to assert their capabilities on a global stage, and many are hopeful that they can indeed create a memorable moment in Fiji’s rugby history.
In summary, with Bobo’s optimism and the team’s recent improvements, the Flying Fijians are poised to take on Ireland with a renewed spirit, making this match an exciting prospect for fans and players alike.
