Discipline and defense are major priorities for the Flying Fijians as they prepare to face Samoa in their Pacific Nations Cup opener at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This emphasis was underscored by captain Tevita Ikanivere, who expressed the importance of maintaining focus throughout the match.

The 24-year-old hooker conveyed to SUNsports that success hinges on their commitment. “There is a saying that goes only good enough if we do the work,” he stated. Ikanivere has also encouraged rugby fans to come out and cheer for the revamped Flying Fijians.

“I’m up for the challenge and I thank God for selecting me as captain to fulfill this role,” he added, anticipating a fierce contest against the Samoans. He acknowledged the youthful nature of the squad but noted the presence of several leaders, which he believes simplifies his responsibilities on and off the field.

After conducting two rigorous training sessions, Ikanivere emphasized their goal of securing a victory in their first PNC match. The game will kick off at 6 PM.
