Mick Byrne has decided to retain the coaching staff of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians for the upcoming July Tests, including their matchups against Australia and Scotland on July 6 and July 12, respectively. The team will continue with the same lineup of coaches that contributed to their notable performance at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, where they reached the quarterfinals. This coaching team includes Graham Dewes, who serves as forwards coach, Aaron Mauger as attack coach, kicking coach Seremaia Bai, and strength and conditioning coach David Silvester.
Byrne expressed optimism about his staff’s continuity and hopes they will stay on until the 2027 Rugby World Cup. “The staff has not changed. Hopefully our intention is they will be able to stay on for the Rugby World Cup,” he stated.
As the team prepares for the July Tests, they will hold a squad assembly in Newcastle on June 27, with Byrne expected to finalize the selection shortly. This match against the Wallabies will pose a significant challenge, especially as it follows a competitive season in Super Rugby Pacific. Byrne remarked on the excitement in the camp concerning the upcoming tour and emphasized that the wallabies will be a formidable opponent given their strong performances in this year’s competition.
Additionally, ticket information for the match against Scotland has been released, with prices ranging from $15 for children’s tickets to $150 for premium seating. Fans can easily purchase tickets online through TicketMate, which enhances the accessibility of these matches for supporters eager to witness high-level rugby.
This series of tests is not only pivotal for the Flying Fijians in terms of competition but also fosters national pride and community spirit. The anticipation of these events reflects a hopeful outlook for Fiji Rugby as they aim for success on the international stage. The upcoming fixtures present an opportunity for the Flying Fijians to showcase their talent and resilience, promising an exciting display of sporting prowess to their dedicated fan base.
