FIJI Water Flying Fijians captain Tevita Ikanivere has highlighted the importance of improved communication within the team. Despite their dominant 50-19 victory over Tonga in the Pacific Nations Cup, Ikanivere pointed out that lapses in concentration could have had serious consequences.
“We dropped our intensity towards the end of the first half and allowed Tonga to come back into the match. With a strong team like Tonga, any space you give them can be capitalized on,” Ikanivere remarked.
Tonga managed to rally from a 19-point deficit to level the scores at 19-all, but Fiji ultimately secured a convincing win.
“Last week we focused on our fitness to ensure we could perform well,” he added. “We had a tough training week because we anticipated a strong challenge from Tonga, especially playing on their home ground.”
Ikanivere also earned the Player of the Match award for his outstanding contribution during the game.
