The Fiji Police Force has implemented movement restrictions in Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki Towns in response to rising water levels caused by heavy rainfall. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that these measures aim to ensure public safety and safeguard infrastructure from potential damage and opportunistic activities.

In the Western Division, four evacuation centers are currently operational, providing shelter for 226 individuals, with more people anticipated as rain continues. The Ba to Rakiraki highway has been closed, rendering Tavua Town inaccessible.

Authorities are actively working to evacuate residents from affected areas and remain vigilant as they monitor the evolving situation.

This proactive response demonstrates the police’s commitment to protecting the community during this challenging time, and the establishment of evacuation centers reflects the readiness to support those in need as the weather worsens.

Summary: The Fiji Police Force has restricted movement in certain towns due to flooding, with evacuation centers set up for affected residents. Authorities are focused on ensuring safety and preventing damage as the situation develops.
